2005 Private Stash Pinot Noir
Wine Advocate - 91 Points
The 2005 Pinot Noir "Private Stash" is from Soles' Wit's End Vineyard. It has a superb perfume of toasty black cherries, black raspberry, and floral elements. This is followed by a broad band of sweet fruit, vibrant acidity, light tannin, and enough balance to ensure a long window of peak drinking.
Wine Spectator - 94 Points
Supple, graceful and deliciously complex, offering dark plum, blackberry, and black olive flavors on plush texture. The flavors linger expressively against wisps of tannins. Drink now through 2015. - Harvey Steiman
Tasting Notes
This single vineyard wine is true to the distinguishing flavors of the Chehalem Mountain AVA. (See The Vineyard on this web site for more AVA information.) Its dark ruby color is characteristic of Oregon's 2005 vintage. The wine is full, round and graceful, with a smooth lingering silkiness in the mouth. The flavors are reminiscent of a baker's kitchen... deep black cherries with soft hints of vanilla, plum, cinnamon, anise and pepper. Released 11/2007.
Rollin says...
In the nose I get a bit of black licorice, plum cake and black pepper that flows effortlessly to black cherry as it has time to open in the glass. In the mouth, the wine is juicy with flavors of pomegranate and plum juices. Its center is spicy with bits of licorice, a touch of pepper and a long sweet fruitcake finish.
Corby says...
Upon first pouring the wine in the glass the nose is anise and white pepper with a deep raspberry background, but after a few moments in the glass the anise falls away and the berry aromas move forward. The wine is big and round in the mouth with smooth satin textures. As the wine breathes, the flavors move from spice, pepper, and plum to subtle vanilla flavors with a hint of cinnamon and sweet cherries. It has a high yum factor.
Production Notes
The 2005 Private Stash is the third in a numbered series of single vineyard Pinot Noirs made exclusively from the Soles' Wits' End Vineyard. The Private Stash represents the best clones and barrel combination of each vintage.
A distinctive sense of place has emerged in ROCO Pinot Noirs. All four vintages score high for a wonderful mixture of red fruit-layered on top of rich black fruit characters finished with a topping of spice. These are the very flavors sought after in the vines and wines of the north Willamette Valley.
